Wells United Charities has been in existence for well over one hundred years and is an amalgamation of six charities; Revd. Mungo Moray, Christopher Ringer, Ann Tidd, William Branch Elliott, Fuel Allotment and Emma Haycock.
These six charities were set up for the relief of poverty, particularly supporting young people in education, and the elderly with fuel costs.
During 2019 Wells United Charities was delighted to welcome the Wells and District League of Friends (Registered Charity Number 259709). We are now collectively known as Wells-next-the-Sea United Charities retaining the Registered Charity Number 236897.
The Object of the Charity is to:
relieve poverty, and the advancement of education, particularly but not exclusively by supporting the elderly
to include relief of sickness, poor health, disability and old age in the Community by the provision of:
a) financial assistance and
b) facilities, amenities, buildings, equipment and services
The ‘Community’ means the geographical area within the Alderman Peel High School Catchment area.
Two types of grant application are reviewed annually in December.
These are applications for:
Applicants must have lived within the parish of Wells-next-the-Sea for over ten years, do not own their own property and are over 70 years of age.
Students must have lived in the Alderman Peel High School catchment for 5 years, have attended Alderman Peel High School. Grants are made to help with the purchase of educational resources or travel costs needed in order to progress to or through further education.

Any individual or institution with other types of need due to difficult financial circumstances should write, outlining the specific type of need and the circumstances responsible for this need arising.
