Welcome to our website
Wells and District United Charities has been in existence for well over one hundred years and is an amalgamation of six charities; Revd. Mungo Moray, Christopher Ringer, Ann Tidd, William Branch Elliott, Fuel Allotment and Emma Haycock.
These six charities were set up for the relief of poverty, particularly supporting young people in education, and the elderly with fuel costs.
The current criteria for the allocation of the two grants is:
Applicants must have lived within the parish of Wells-next-the-Sea for over ten years, do not own their own property and are over 70 years of age.
Students must have lived in the area of Wells-next-the-Sea for at least five years (we use the Alderman Peel High School catchment as the boundary, have attended Alderman Peel High School and are going on to further education. The grants are made to help with the purchase of educational resources such as books and / or travel costs.
The application forms can be downloaded from the link above, they will also be available from David Jagger’s Chemist Shop in Staithe Street and the completed forms should be delivered to Clerk (details are on the application forms).

Applying for Grants
Applications for grants are reviewed in May and December every year. There are specific forms to apply for an education grant or heating allowance, and certain criteria must be met to be eligible. Please see the Application Forms link at the top of this page for more information. However, if you know of anyone in any kind of need due to difficult financial circumstances please write to our clerk (see the Contact Us link at the top of this page) and the trustees will be pleased to review the situation to see if our objects enable us to give support.
The Charities welcome support. Our annual income from assets provides only a small percentage of the sums trustees grant every year and so fund raising is ongoing. Please see the Please Donate link at the top of this page.
