Welcome to our website
What do we do?
WUC are here to help local people struggling with old age, ill health or poverty. We do this by giving grants to local people for fuel and education and in 2020 we added a Covid grant to support people in financial difficulties. WUC also offer grants to local charities, if they are offering a service to the community that is in line with WUC objects. Applicants must be living within the catchment area of WUC, see map. To apply for help, download the relevant form from ‘Application forms‘ above.
Applicants must have lived within the parish of Wells-next-the-Sea for over ten years, do not own their own property and are over 70 years of age.
Students must have lived in the Alderman Peel High School catchment for 5 years and have attended Alderman Peel High School. Grants are made to help with the purchase of educational resources or travel costs needed in order to progress to or through further education.
Any individual or institution with other types of need due to difficult financial circumstances should write, outlining the specific type of need and the circumstances responsible for this need arising. Please send this to our clerk in the first instance (see the Contact Us link at the top of this page). WUC trustees will be pleased to review the situation to see if our objects enable us to give support.
Support for poor Health:
Applicants need to have a diagnosed condition which incurs them with extra expense, in the form of transport, equipment or prescriptions.
